This workshop will take a deep dive into the reading comprehension texts and Standards-based questions on Part I of the exam. Teachers will learn how to adjust approaches to challenging texts, both literary and informational, so that students can manage their time for Part I, anticipate the questions, and apply metacognitive skills. Emphasis will be placed on understanding writer’s craft, vocabulary in context, interpreting dialogue in literature, and unpacking complex syntax. Target audience: English and special education teachers, grades 9-12. (This workshop, because it draws from the ELA Reading Standards, is also relevant to grades 6-8).
