The word anthology has an interesting history. The antho– part derives from anthos, the Greek word for flower. Originally, an anthology was a collection of poems. The –logy part is most noted as meaning study of, but it also means a display of, as in morphology and terminology. So, an anthology is, in a metaphorical way, a display of flowers.
